ND AD Swarbrick: "There’s Still One Chapter To Come..." (Re: Conf. Realignment).

"There’s still one chapter to come as far as conference realignment, and that will come after these BCS discussions...These are an important 3½ days (of meetings) this next week in Fla. (The result) will have a significant impact on us (Notre Dame) one way or another.”
any ideas what this next chapter might be?

quote:
"Folks are realizing there is little separation between 1-2-3-4, and maybe even deeper, so that the 1-2 matchup as the game is losing a little credibility," Thompson said. "When AQ conference champs get passed for conference runners-up, that is the real issue."
quote:
Washington athletic director Scott Woodward, who went to Seattle from LSU, attended the Allstate BCS National Championship Game in January.
"New Orleans was not a cataclysmic event for me," he said. "You can make an argument that the two best teams played."
Woodward prefers a four-team format
quote:
"Administrators and presidents and athletic directors move slowly," Woodward said. "We always have. We make incremental moves, when we make them at all."
But try finding someone who thinks the college football postseason will stand still. You can't do it.

SOUNDS like an 8-team playoff with 6 BCS conferences getting in their champ with 2 AL spots
that would force ND's hand, imho

4 16 team conferences. Winners go to a 4 team playoff

if the conferences are working it, it will have to be to ensure all 6 get a team in (and more importantly, all 6 get a piece of the pie)

A change in format that locked conference champions into a playoff would force ND into a conference. ACC or B1G would have to add another with them if that happened, which might touch off more movement.

If this is the case then they are still really far away, you need some major chunks of the bigger conferences consolidating with the other conferences. You'd have too much debate between which conferences deserve the 4 bids (Big 12, Big 10, Pac-12, SEC, ACC) in the current alignment. We can exclude Big East.

Nah, that would make too much sense.
More likely would be if the six B(C)S conference champions get in no matter how bad they suck, Notre Dame gets in if they're in the top 20, the best coalition school gets in if it's in the top 12, otherwise they just take the top two wild cards (but no more than 2 teams from the same conference).

some programs fans understand that with their programs track record with coaching that we may need 8 spots to do what we gotta do. 8 is cool by me, 4 is better but i like 8. 16 is when things get fishy

In the history of the BCS - has anyone ever thought any team above #6 was getting jobbed?
In fact the lowest ranked team I can think of that people thought could win it all was #5 USC in 2008.

that's a good point, it'd be nice to a 6 team format with a bye week but shite i thought the plus one was asking too much from the NCAA. the further the complexity the more opportunities the men in charge have a chance to frick everything up

a. this isn't "the NCAA"
b. what "plus one" do you mean? there are at least 3 systems with a label of "plus one"
