Tried them all, actually in 3 different states/markets over the year. Total f-ing joke IMO. They're like a cult.
Personally, I don't want to be forced to refer a piece of business to one particular person all the time just because they're in my BNI group. While the atty in a BNI group might be cool, the landscaping architect may be a total douchbag that I don't feel comfortable referring my clients to. But if you don't "play the game" then you'll get blackballed should they find out you referred someone outside of the cult!
Just join the chamber or some other networking stuff. You'll come out way ahead.
