I hate carrying extra closers. I have Axford and Street, but Marshall just hit the waiver wire. Would you drop Street for him? I am thinking no, but Street is going to frustrate me with his lack of save oppurtunities. Here is my breakdown:
Park: Street (big advantage)
Best Stuff: Marshall
Most job security: Street (Chapman scares me on Marshall)
Best team and save ops: Marshall
I think Marshall is more of a gamble with more potential upside, and a better chance of getting more saves, but he could also get demoted and leave me out to dry without another closer (assuming Street gets picked up). What do you think?

Marshall is the better pitcher so I would pick the better pitcher on a winning team.

Are you not scared by some of his early blow ups and Chapman behind him?

Chapman will probably start before he closes.

It doesn't matter if you play on the worst team in the league as far as saves are concerned.

Drew Storen saved 43 for the Nats last year. So did Heath Bell with SD. Hanrahan saved 40 with the Pirates. League 37 etc etc etc

Street is the choice. He's done it before.

You mean the one time when they brought him in the game in a non-save situation and he gave up a run? No, that doesn't scare me. The dude can pitch.

I completely agree, but I don't know if I see the Padres winning 43 games this year, much less Street getting that many saves. This is also a dynasty league and with Marshall, I know this will be his only year closing. With Street, there is a possibility to have another year of closing.

Bad teams also play in closer games, leading to more save opportunities.

How do you know that? Can you see into the future? Marshall could easily close for the Reds next year.

My drop would be Ike Davis, Bedard (I know he'll get hurt, but SP is highly valued in this league), or Mike Minor. I can only start two RP, so I don't want to waste a roster spot trying to choose which closer would be the best to start.

Ryan Madson was on a one year deal

I just doubt he will with Madson having a team option for next year, and the propensity for most teams to avoid LH closers when possible. Couple that with the fact that Chapman should be in the rotation next year, and Marshall would probably be more valued as a LH reliever in a non closer situation. Honestly, that point does not matter to me as closers are pretty easy to find in a year's time period. It was more of an aside consideration.

Didn't realize it was 11 mil. My bad. So that point is a moot point. I am still unsure. For Red's fans that have watched him pitch this year (I admittedly have not), how dominant is his stuff. I know he has averaged > 9k/9 for the last few years, but does he appear to have the closer mentality?

He's looked pretty strong in the save situations. That said, I'd rather have Street over Marshall in fantasy.

Interesting fact: the Padres have had the most save opportunities in the majors the past two years.

Could you try to acquire Marshall and then trade to someone in need of him?

You said are only allowed to have two RP. Do you any P spots where the role does not matter?

FWIW, I think it would be worth it to add Marshall over your worst starter.
