So, I guess Nola Americans it is. Or maybe we can go with Nola Planet Earthians. How about Nola Humans? It may cut out some rich pooches, though. Nola Mammals? But crows are probably smart enough to possibly wear a hat, so we need to include birds. Nola Land- and Tree-Dwelling Animals (because fish don't have fingers to hold money). frick yeah! I finally found a mascot that Spoonie Luv can get behind.

first off, anyone wanting the colors to be black/gold is fricking stupid

quote:

I dont mind the name New Orleans Crescents

I really is a solid choice. Local ties and rolls off the tongue well.

quote:

So cool logos and colors work, only if someone can identify with the mascot? There's no way we can have a cool Krewe logo and colors to anyone outside of LA, because they are the only ones that know what Krewe is. Got it.

Texans, Canucks, Canadiens, Islanders, Yankees, Browns, Dodgers, etc.

ITS

A
frick
ING

If we want our mascot to be the Pillsbury Doughboy Sorry, maybe it's because I'm not from NO, but NO isn't the first thing that pops into my head when I hear crescents, it's all those damn Pillsbury commercials on TV.

New Orleans is the CRESCENT CITY!

most sports teams' mascots have nothing to do with the team name. What's the first thing that pops in your mind when you hear Clipper? Almost certain it's not a ship. Is their mascot a ship? Also what's the 76er's mascot? Is it a birthday candle with the number 76? The Spurs' mascot is a fricking coyote. What does a coyote have to do with a cowboy boot accessory?

But not the CRESCENTS! I'd get Crescent City X, but New Orleans Crescents seems like a reach. The Crescent isn't even the city symbol, that's the Fleur de Lis.

how is the nickname of the city a reach?

what in the flying frick are you talking about? Neither is the fleur de lis. And what does that have to do with anything?

I assume you must be talking about the city flag which has a fleur de lis on it

Is there an apple in the New York City flag?

what about the shield? (which is the same as the flag)

It takes all 3.

a lot of people know what Mardi Gras is nationally. But most of them have no clue what a Krewe is.

and its funny, i come back to this thread because i just heard a radio interview with the man that represents the firm that is talked about in this original post. And one of the biggest things they are looking for in a nickname is something that not only is appealing regionally, but nationally. Go figure.

quote:

. People across the country and globe have a strong connection to Bulls, Heat, Pacers, Celtics, Spurs, Thunder, Lakers, Clippers, etc.

Like i said, if a team wins, anything goes. Bulls, Celtics, SPurs, Lakers...4 of the most popular teams in history....because they won championships.....multiple championships.

Celtics, Spurs, Heat etc all have regional themed logos and meanings, but they are pretty damn generic. Lakers are well, sine they came from Minn.

If you examine the most recent additions to the NBA(the last 10 teams or so), most of the names have been more generic that older teams.

Mascots are irrelevant to a rebranding. They are to keep little kids occupied during games. So i dont really care about what our mascot is.

But a logo is different. It's obviously a huge deal with a rebranding. It's represented on all merchandise, signs, TV, etc etc.

The nickname isn't Crescents, it's Crescent City.

quote:

Where are the Crescents? They aren't there because the Crescent is a description of the physical shape of the city, not a symbol that is important to the city. Again, Crescent City X is an acceptable use of Crescent, New Orleans Crescents is a reach.

quote:

Is there an apple in the New York City flag?

No, but the nickname of the city is The Big Apple. If they wanted a team named the NY Big Apples it'd be stupid, but it'd fit. If they wanted a team named the Apple City Giants it'd be kind of weird, no?

I'm not trying to be a hard arse over this, I just see a logical inconsistency in the application of Crescent as a team name.

I think the crescents is a cool name but the branding by way of logo for that scares me off.
