I'm not a huge fan of Krewe but not for this reason. Most pro teams have mascots that make no sense. Hell the saints have a dog as their mascot. That has nothing to do with the Saints. Does that make that a bad name?

If "Gators" wasn't in there, those would all be possibly the worst suggestions I've heard so far. And that's not to say "Gators" isn't a bad idea, the others are just in a league of their own.

I must clearly be in the minority, but I think Blues is far and away the best option but it never gains any traction. I know it's not a perfect fit, but it doesn't have to be. The majority of team nicknames connection to a city is pretty loose anyway.
I think most of these ideas are being way too direct in trying to make a connection with New Orleans. That or too WNBA/AFL-ish. Hopefully fan input has nothing to do with this decision.
That said, most new team names almost always sound pretty dumb at first, but you get used to it over time.
Also, the idea that no one will buy merchandise if you make the colors black and gold is flawed in my opinion. I don't own a Hornets shirt, and I have no plans to either. But if the colors were black and gold I probably would have one. Sure, there are people that will just wear Saints things, but making some sort of connection with the city (along with winning) will get people to buy.

First one covers the "local culture" idea that keeps cycling, second one covers the "let's reuse an old name from another team" idea that keeps recycling, third one covers the "thinly veiled racist" idea that also keeps cycling. Could we possibly expedite the process for next season (2012-2013 season) I'd hate to have to go another season as the Hornets and miss out on any momentum the name change can bring.
And I personally like the Krewe name much more than any other its marketable because of the unique spelling and a name like Brass sounds real generic and feels like a cop out because we can't be the Jazz.

So cool logos and colors work, only if someone can identify with the mascot? There's no way we can have a cool Krewe logo and colors to anyone outside of LA, because they are the only ones that know what Krewe is. Got it.

I like 'New Orleans Captains'. Homage to local history and industry, won't be confused with a WNBA team or another NBA team (Bucks), and still mainstream enough to work.

Lol who cares, if the state can relate to it other people will get involved. It is a cool logo. I never heard a person say they're a Fab of a team vases on "relatability".
