Yea, because the other mascots in the NBA that are named after animals all have national appeal.

You're having to repeat yourself, because you are saying dumb shite.

Is it fact that this is the first order of business?

It's probably first order of business for the team and employees that he hires to do that as their job.

I heard we are suspending all basketball operations until the rebranding is complete, because hiring a firm for that purpose is very time consuming

That was the point I was trying to make, but I apparently wasn't clear enough. What about his hiring a PR firm to look into rebranding alters the day-to-day operations of the franchise?

If Benson at a press conference for the ASG and to announce his ownership comes in off the bat and says we're gonna re-brand the team to the commissioner's dismay, what do you think that says? I don't like how he's jumping on this already. Options need to weighed. There's a lot of pros that come with re-branding, but even more potential cons.

Okay, big man. All you have to do is pony up $340M and you can do whatever you want with the name.

He's saying that at a pres conference so the fans will get excited about the prospects for the team's future.

He's not going to get up there and say, "Well, I interviewed about 10 candidates last week for basketball operation positions. I also interviewd a few to be my lead marketers. Ummmm, we've got some new furniture coming in for our offices."

Bringing the name change up gets people excited, talking about the team, looking to the future, etc.

He bought the team and can do whatever he wants with it and I'm damn glad he did. But it doesn't mean I have to agree with what he said today. Maybe I'm looking at it from a marketing prospective. The Hornets brand isn't broken. If we want a more localized brand, we have to be absolutely sure that it's going to work.

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited. But I fear that he's talking too fast. Like when he says the Jazz name is not off the table. That would be great, but does he really believe that or is he just trying to get us excited?

An announcer for CST college baseball said Benson bought "the Charlotte Hornets" last night. We need a rebrand.

It's not like he's making Demps submit name proposals, there are other people in the organization to worry about marketing, they won't ignore other responsibilities.

no one outside of New Orleans and a few other small select cities would know what a Krewe was.

people would know what a Pelican is.

pretty simple concept. Animals generally have national appeal.

I don't think logo'ed apparel of the "Krewe" would have much national or global appeal. Especially with the way basketball has spread worldwide. Not that the Pelicans would, but it would be easier to market to those regions.

Wouldn't want Pelicans. Still has a baseball connotation to me.

I saw on a board somewhere the name Pride.

Like New Orleans Pride or the Pride of New Orleans

The mascot would be a Lion (i guess roaring)

I thought it fit this city and how it stepped up for this team perfectly. Also imagine the universal marketing hats, shirts jerseys with the word PRIDE and a roaring lions head. Black and Gold would be good colors

Why would some kid around the world want to wear some animal name for a team he has never heard of?

You get to become a national/global brand when you become successful.

Win a championship or two, with some young, exciting players, and Krewe can easily become something popular.

Even before the success, wouldn't teh fact that someone doesn't know what the Krewe is, possibly increase the chance that they will maybe get online and research what it is?
