Id say he has done a pretty damn good job at UNT. How can you expect more than 20+ wins/season at a place that was averaging 5 perseason before he came in... Its not like he went .500 coaching at duke

thank you for your efforts. however, the best basketball players in the dale brown era are from out of state. shaq, scales, maclin, chris jackson, reynolds, vargas, hammick, john williams, vernel singleton, blanton, roberts, maurice williams, ronnie henderson, i believe hi c carter, the microwave (sims), and cookie man were from out of state as well.

Also got a bigger recruit to UNT than trent ever got to LSU
24th on espn
5 star on rivals 12th player overall (ignore the mizzou thing he signed with UNT)

What a ringing endorsement! I'm sure every successful business looks to the employees they recently fired for personnel opinions.

Yeah...and let's ask McCain who he thinks should be President too while we are at it

As Honeybun said on 104.5 this morning, he is coach of a decent team in a sorry conference.

Why should he be hired?

If it's not Dixon/Smart/WichitaSt guy then why not?

You think he would do worse than Trent? PLEASE

for? and when the truth finally came out, then what?

the basketball powerhouse that is UNT, that avg 4 wins a season before Johnny Jones?

44 games over .500 at a school in lower Oklahoma? That no one has heard of? And he's won there? That's average?

Do I think he should get the gig without attempting to hire bigger names? No I do not

But this bashing and bs session many of you are rejoicing in is a bit much.

For everyone with their concerns, tell me how much worse Johnny Jones could do than Trent Johnson....It's not like LSU is hiring someone to replace Les Fricking Miles

if Jones doesn't work out, ok 4 years you start over- with more time to hire realistically, LSU basketball is in the shitter, I am good with hiring someone who knows that LSU basketball doesn't HAVE to be in the shitter and was around when things were successful

Craig Carse has long been credited with the succssful recruitment of Chris Jackson. Dale is credited with Shaq's

I am not against Jones.. but lets not revise history to help him.. he has done fine at UNT and could be just what LSU needs...

Carse takes credit for CJ & other here (could be wrong but I dont think it is a case of George O'leary resume padding) ..
quote:

Of Carse’s many recruits over the years, several have advanced to professional careers. While at LSU, Carse was the primary recruiter of Chris Jackson, Stanley Roberts, Shaquille O'Neal, Gerrt Hammink and Ronnie Henderson.

Which makes the recruiting argument even more funny. He was able to get decent players to North Texas and was still not able to do anything special with them.

Then why not take a gamble on someone younger and unproven?

Dear Clarence: Are you really an alumni? When was the last time you went to an LSU basketball game? You and so many other former players only show up when there is a free meal. Come to a few games every now and then and maybe your opinion will have a little merit.

Should we also ignore the fact that he was ruled academically ineligible after signing with Mizzou, thus causing him to sign with UNT

over someone who's been a head coach for 10 years? that WANTS to be here?

Geez dude we get you don't want Jones but seriously you'd rather have someone UNPROVEN over someone PROVEN....just not proven enough for you?

GTFO, please

The biggest issue people have with Jones is the overwhelming politicking going on to get him here. The AD has a job to do. Let him do it. His arse is on the line with this hire. The former coaches, former players and other "influences" can offer an opinion. But the ultimate decision is the AD's.

Mitchell couldn't qualify anywhere and that's how he ended up at UNT.

Since it was UNT...Yes. Considering he could have chose anywhere else in america simply being his landing spot is damn good. Theres places like Houston with more bball history and similar standards where he would have been welcomed with open arms.

So winning 20+ games at LSU is just as easy as doing it at North Texas?

Easier.

To answer that question the number is 5. Which happens to be how many Johnny Jones had straight at UNT.
