I guess he could have committed himself to the interview a while back and didn't want to back out last minute...

Even if he committed this morning and then went to meet with LSU and is in serious talks. If he is a true candidate and has interest, he is going to do everything possible to cover his tracks and not let anyone know. So like a poster said he will do nothing out of the ordinary until the press conference.
