He said from the beginning that he was just passing along advice, he was never going to be the HC.

This. I'm sure even Hefner has had to handle his own business at some point in his life. And this isn't the OT, so we aren't all 20 deep in hot bitches.

and I also feel that Mickey and Mr. Benson feel its an unnecessary spending of a few millions of mr. Benson's monies.

I still think it could have worked but why would tom be willing to spend another millions of dollars to get this done on a new coach?

While Bill Parcells would have been a great fill-in for Sean Payton, you never got the feeling owner Tom Benson was on board on thought.

OK, but seriously now, the biggest decision may be that Parcells can act as a consultant to the organization, which means that he won't be an employee of the organization, and thus Payton can still talk to him.

Connect the dots.

Very possible.
As someone said earlier in another post if you don't rush to name the interim coach whoever it may be Payton can talk to them as he wills till that point.

Maybe Parcells just turned down the offer?

Maybe Parcells was not offered the job? Last time I checked, Benson owned the Saints, not Payton. Maybe good Ole Tom was never on board with this idea, thus no offer to Parcells.
