The football SEC schools have a tradition of firing any basketball coach who becomes more popular than the football coach. The administrations/Athletic departments (Alabama, Auburn, LSU,Arkansas, Tenn, etc) don't like it when you have a coach who is colorful and dynamic anymore. The trend is to hire boring coaches because they worry the fans might migrate to the less revenue producing sport of basketball at the expense of football.

This is why you won't see a brand name coach at any large SEC football school. I agree with Tim Brando that the history of firing successful basketball coaches in the SEC who get bigger than the football program has killed the popularity of basketball in the states where football is king. Dale Brown, Wimp Sanderson, Nolan Richardson, Sonny Smith, Joel Eaves, Cliff Ellis, C.M. Newton, Mark Gottfried, Bruce Pearl, Don DeVoe, etc are examples of this IMO.

I call BS. Dale would never have left if the NCAA hadn't carpet-bombed us.
