I was in Birmingham a few weeks ago and on Jox 94.5, one of the Bama guys said LSU basketball is a sleeping giant, and with the right coach, look out! Just for whar it's worth...

no reason we shouldn't be on Florida's level though their state has more recruits. we should be able to get what we need from La., east Texas, and the gulf coast

They pay Donovan $3.5 million annually. That's just not something that's going to happen here.

LSU should go and find a hungry/energetic/likeable guy that has worked under a great coach.....

Just my O

You can win at LSU if you can convince the right kids to come here.....if it can be done at Memphis/VCU/Gonzaga/etc it can DEFINITELY be done here.

It's not like they hired him at that salary, that is after winning 2 national titles. If LSU hired a coach that achieved that degree of success I'm sure they would be willing to pay him substantially too.

right kids? you mean get already-good players to choose your program.

how about someone who can actually teach the game. Then you can 'get by' with two stars and three stars who are willing to learn the game, hustle, work out, practice hard and wait their turn to be senior starters. Remember when that used to happen?

Does anyone really think LSU wins all those football games without teaching the players the fundamentals of unit play?

The Gonzaga Bulldog "Zags" roster:
two Germans
a Frenchman
an African from Ivory Coast
three Canadians (and one of them is from Ontario, far from Seattle.

and a few guys from Washington and one from Idaho.

You really think Alleva is going to pull a coach out of his arse who has connections like that?

Which is why I also stated that we need an x's and o's coach to go along with the "right kids".

LSU could also occassionally pull in a Shaq/Tyrus/Big Baby/Chris Jackson/John Williams type player as well.

It can be done.........just get the right guy.

They GOT BD for 5 years @ $6 million ($1.2 per year).

Kids want to come to LSU, getting one of these top notch coaches is not a long shot. What about Stansbury?

LSU isn't getting Brad Stevens...I think we would get Shaka before we got Stevens lol. Take the purple and gold glasses off.

We have to ask but I don't thing either of them would come to LSU. They've both already turned down offers.

I've always been a guy that has maintained that LSU should only hire coaches with head coaching experience.

But I think the LSU basketball program has fallen in stature to the degree that we'd end up settling if we forced that as a requirement. I'm at the point where I think giving an up and coming assistant the job and risk him using the job as a stepping-stone just to get the program back on solid ground.
