I always enjoyed his music and his stories. He released "Taxi" in 1972:

Harry Chapin "Taxi"

And the sequel to "Taxi" when Harry meets Sue again. "The Sequel" was released in 1980, about a year before he was killed in a auto accident on the Long Island Expressway:

Harry Chapin "The Sequel"

Oh, and Kafka please do not post the William Shatner version of "Taxi" I am still traumatized by that post you made a few years ago. Thanks!

I know they saw him a few times live. My old man would get choked up talking about harry and his death.

While he played concerts that I am sure brought in a lot of money, on Long Island (where he lived) he did a lot of free concerts at small venues. His only request at his free concerts was that anyone who came bring cannned foods for the hungry. He spoke out a lot about world hunger.

Chapin was only 38 when he died. In fact he was on his way to do a free concert when he was killed in an auto accident on the Long Island Expressway. There is some question about whether he may have had a heart attack or some other medical emergency while he was driving.

Did you go to Rutgers? Word is that they are giving the Gaels a game next basketball season. Iona will not be as good as they were this season, we lose a lot to graduation. We are always happy to play teams from the big conferences.

Back on topic, here is another one of my favorites from Harry:

I never went to rutgers, but grew up in the area. My folks have been season ticket holders over 30 years. Rutgers was the youngest bball team in the country this year, i have high hopes for next season. The rac is a fun place to see a game.

Rutgers gave Iona a pre-season scrimmage this season and we did pretty well. But I think they will handle us pretty well in a regular season game next season.
