how about the new trend of bands begging people to give them money so they can record an album? What ever happened to using what you had access to (4-tracks, radio with a record button, etc.) to make demos?
not even that, you can record a major studio quality album at home with a computer. And just making a minimal amount of contacts in the business and you can do it for free

There is absolutely nothing hard about putting together a little bit of money and buying some equipment and recording 4 demo quality songs.

I just checked out their MySpace page. They should change their name to "Boner R(i)ot"

You talking about kickstarter?

Some bands make a mockery of it.

But kickstarter is pretty awesome for funding projects from friends and family. For bands, I just think of it as a preorder.

Unless things have changed at the Varsity, I recall that you had an option of paying $500 up front and getting a higher percentage of the door,

You can pay 1000 and get 100% of the door, or pay 500 And get 70% I think.

Or you could pay nothing and get 40% of the door.

Or they could just suck it up and realize that they're not good enough to headline the Varsity, and the best they should shoot for is to open for free or play Clicks.

The ones more pathetic than the wanna-be rock stars grinding away at gigs in shite-hole dives, is the groupie chicks who sleep with them cuz they think they're boning a musician. Honey, he just sprung his amps out of hock on the way to this gig. You ain't fricking Motley Crue.

Not defending this dumb post, but if you think Candlebox at some point didn't pay to play, you are clueless in this business.

Ozzfest was pay to play except for the headliner. Superjoint Ritual paid $100,000 to play the mainstage. I'm guessing the side stage was less. It's really the only reason Jada Pinkett's band was on that tour a year after opening for Britney Spears.

Candlebox had a hit very early in their career. Highly doubtful they were paying to play.

Artist and bands buy on tours before they have singles in every genre. Regardless who fronts the money, Candlebox indeed paid to play before they recouped a dollar. 99% of time this is case

Candlebox could be 1%.

Already spent too much time on a cheesy arse last hope of 80's rock in a 90's world band.
