I don't see how this happens. Monty is a defensive coach and Ariza currently has the best defense on the team. Why on earth would we amnesty a guy with a contract that isn't that bad to have fricking Al-Farouq Aminu starting at the 3?

I think amnestying Ariza could be a good move for the franchise

why not just trade him?

get an expiring contract even. you wouldnt have had to pay him anything in that case

this is a nonsense report, but moving on from ariza is a good thing imo...his defense is great, sure, but there are a lot of 3s out there with more than one dimension...Ariza is just a bad shooter and is not exactly a bargain...not completely against keeping him, but he could very easily be replaced.

If we're amnestying anyone, it should be Okafor.

For those wanting Ariza gone, do you realize that he is having arguably his best season as a pro? All of his numbers are higher than last year's and there's no denying that he is an elite perimeter defender. Not to mention he is only 26 years old. He still has multiple years of solid production and his elite defense would be a key part of a title contending team if we can put scorers around him. We already have one in EG.

shooting 41% this season. 40% last season. He is a one dimensional specialist player. that's great when you're a talented team. Chicago has a guy like Korver for strictly shooting threes. And i agree, if we had a very talented team, Ariza could be a nice piece. But with this roster, and his price, it's time to move on from him imo.

...PER of 14.2--ranked 24th among small forwards.

...11.9 points per 36 minutes. terrible.

not against keeping him. i value his defense...but in a perfect world, i would like a player who was good on D and could contribute something else.

Yeah, I don't know why you think this is a break out year, but his numbers in Houston were pretty much a mirror image of this season. Although he averaged almost 15 ppg that season (alot more than this season). Also, he was way more efficient his last year with the Lakers and 06-07 with the Magic.

Also, I'm denying that he is an "elite" perimeter defender. It is a purely subjective perspective, but I have never found any rankings to back up that claim. In 8 seasons, he has never been named 1st or 2nd defensive team (not that hard of a list to crack.. LINK Sure, he is a good defender, but you don't have to pump him up.

Not many teams have a need for him. Off the top of my head I would say the TWolves and Magic are the only two contending playoff teams that could use a guy like Ariza. Most already have their perimeter defender.

In a perfect world, yes. If I was owner I wouldn't pay someone $30 million just to go away. With the hope that I would only pay 16-18 million dollars of the contract.
