You say only the conference champion was invited and UNC was hampered because the ACC was so tough...then pray tell - where are all the ACC National Champions????
Just because they don't win a National Title, doesn't mean that the league is not strong.
According to your reasonings, Kentucky should have the most titles, considering they have played in more tournament games than anyone else.

Exactly...the ACC had plenty of opporunity to show they were the best with their representative in the Final Four...they failed to do so.
Look, UNC is a Top 3 program...but being really really good and consistent over a long period doesn't make them the all-time greatest. It does come down to titles - especially in a tournament format where the representatives of each major conference had their shot. The fact is, the ACC couldn't get it done against the Pac or Big 10 for a long stretch...so it's disingenuous to say they were the best conference over that 30 year period or UCLA had it easy.

How did this get spun to me saying UNC was the most storied program?

I guess you become the surrogate responder to Unbiased Bama fan...
I thought you were piggybacking his claim that UNC was the #1 program of all time because they had a better head-to-head record - the few times they met among the elite. Or that the ACC was the most dominant conference the last 60 years - and that's why UNC is the best ever. The ACC has been dominant for periods but had quite a lull...UCLA or Kentucky or Indiana didn't win their titles because they could only beat scrubs...the NCAA tournament with all the Conference Champions is the ultimate arbiter.

I am a huge Tar Heel fan, yes. But no, I don't think they are the most storied program. I think it is UCLA, and then UK, UNC, and KU are all right there together.
