We also have to go with the time frame and the state of college football and basketball at the time. You could argue that Coach Bryant coached in a stronger league at the time, as some consider the 60's and 70's the golden era of a lot of teams such as, Texas, OU, Arkansas, USC, UCLA, Michigan, Ohio State, etc... In the 60's and 70's in college basketball you had, UCLA (Obviously), Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, and then it starts to get harder to name some teams. Also, some would argue the 70's were a substantially harder era with the addition of nation wide integration in pretty much every college, where as college basketball had integration well before hand which made the league a lot more credible.

I would think that College Basketball would have been a bigger sport in the 70's than it is today, also I would say that you can't argue had better talent, played in a stronger league, etc. About one with out arguing it about the other.
You know what Wooden won for ten straight years in a sport that is hard to win for 1 year? A playoff, how many playoff victories does bryant have?
