I like MKG, but i dont see how anyone can justify him as the 2nd best prospect in this draft. Do people really think he has the upside to be the 2nd best player in this draft class?
I don't see him as the second best prospect at all. I was shocked to see him shoot up the mocks like he has. I have been following several mocks throughout the year like it is my job. He made this jump during the SEC Tournament. Then it helped that he had solid games during the NCAA tournament. It is all based on potential and what people believe his ceiling is as I am sure you know this. There seems to always be a guy that leaps into high draft status every year who is labeled all "potential". MKG is an example of that imo.

He's a nice combination of potential and translation. How well he'll score is questionable, but his size, good rebounding for his position, and excellent defense will translate well into the league. At the worse, he will be a very good perimeter defender with inconsistent scoring, in my opinion.

So top 2 pick on Trevor Ariza?
Posted on 4/2/12 at 11:18 pm to saintsfan22
Worse case scenario, yeah. I think he'll be able to score better though. I mean, it's a shot in the dark prediction, but I have a feeling he's going to develop a solid consistent jumper considering his work ethic and age.

MKG scares me with his lack of offense...don't want another athlete that can't score and needs years to learn how to score or not...i hope whoever we draft can score

Ariza wishes his handle and drive was as good as MKG's.
But I can't disagree for someone who could possibly be the #2 overall pick you'd like his offense to be better.

T-rob seems to be out of position for the nba.....not a true pf...not a true sf
That's cuz he's a SPF.....duhhhh.
MKG would have benefited from another year of college like T Jones did......has a lot of polishing to do.
I think Jones is gonna be a steal if he falls past 13.

Jones benefited because that clip of Calipari calling him a selfish motherfricker isn't fresh anymore but he's still got many of the same warts and his numbers went down. If MKG goes back scouts won't be impressed with him just crashing into the lane he'll have to show he can shoot.

So, if we're picking third and Davis and Robinson aren't on the board, who do we pick other than MKG? BPA says besides MKG, it would be Beal. But he plays the same position as the only player with all star ability currently on our roster (Gordon).
Do we go with a Drummond then? (Most of us hate that option) Barnes? (Hard to argue he's less of a risk than MKG) Or do we take Beal and let EG walk, making the final return for CP3 = Beal, the 10-12 pick, and Aminu?
Process of elimination seems to say MKG is the lowest risk, best potential in that spot.

My main concern is what I saw yet again last night. TRob was completely ineffective in the low post one on one. He couldn't make a quick move if his life depended on it and his 6-17 shooting really hampered their chances to win. FWIW I was in the building and kept SMH'n at how slow he is to make a move. It was extremely disappointing.

Not to mention Robinson doesn't bring much of anything on the defensive end. When Withey was out, UK had its way in the lane.

If you don't want to pick Beal and you're afraid of Drummond I bet you could trade back. Beal is the best SG, the next best, Lamb, isn't expected to go until possibly the late lottery. Toronto for example has their front court needs pretty taken care of. They are targeting SF but I could see them having interest in Beal too. Trade back a few spots and pick up their 2013 top 3 protected pick. They should still be a mid lottery team next year, the only thing that worries me is they play in the East.

I dont know what game you were watching, but the T-Rob I saw was being double and triple teamed the entire time.....and he was the ONLY offense due to Kansas' lack of scoring.

You cant really make too many moves when you're double teamed....and I dont know if you remembered that pick and roll when it seemed like he got the pass and was already in the air to dunk it.
The guy was overmatched last night because he was targeted by a very good, long defensive team.

Meh. I'd take him, but the drop off in this year's draft after Davis is astronomical.

Exactly... He knew the double was coming yet he still continued to hold the ball and wait for it. Catch it, make a quick (notice quick being faster than wait 2 seconds for double team) move to the basketball and you'll get the score or a foul. He consistently caught it and waited for the double to come (didn't come as much as you think, there were some shows and a man in help side but a true double or triple wasn't there but maybe half the time. He just was a step slow on the plays. That being said he stepped it up elsewhere (okay, only rebounding). He offered absolutely no hindrance defensively to anything UK wanted to do.

You must not have played post that much or not at all....you dont just catch it and score like that (the only time you do is if the defender has tried to make a play and you still catch it and go the opposite way with no hinderance). You catch, observe or feel the defender, and either face up, power dribble, spin or body fake for your initial move.....it truly is an art (thanks to Hakeem the Dream).
Now I will admit, Coach Self didnt gameplan with T-Rob very well cuz I never saw him give Davis or Jones a pump fake to get them off the ground to draw fouls, he just took the first shot available which is why most of them were blocked or unbalanced.
Oh, and he never once kicked it back out for a 3. And none of his teammates flashed to open spots for quick passes when he was doubled.

At points when he did try to make a move Davis would wind up blocking his shot. He can't score every point for his team, he needs support from his teammates so that Davis isn't throwing everything he puts up out to the stands.
