The GoT threads are dangerous for spoilers for people who have read past the TV series but not all five books.

kinda the point of this thread. for people who are up to speed tv wise, but not so far ahead.

its an odd middle ground. people whove read past are welcomed but just need to watch the spoilers obviously. i heard book 3 blows minds.

I honestly can't tell you what book had what. I read them all straight through. I only remember the major events like ones in the 3rd and 5th books. Everything else is a blur. I might start reading the second book again this week.

i wonder if the comet will play more into the show than it did in the book. it just kinda fades without a second thought.

Say what?

It's talked about often in the book

What, you wanted to make it a main plot point and a medieval style Deep Impact?

Heard arya's only in the first ep. fir a few seconds. They better not short change her storyline this season

her storyline is probably the best this season. Not going to say specifics but there is so much stuff they can put in for her.

yeah. this is up to the end of the book.

the comet is a big deal at first. then its dropped in a second. just thought it actually meant something.

arya's story is one of the main ones. i doubt they short change her. hell, the whole fate of Harrenhal surrounds her.

It may be significant....

There is going to be some sort of exposition from some sort of ancient badass laying everything down. Separating myth and belief from reality.

Comet can easily play into it.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS, MARTIN SAID THIS OUT OF A BOOK

There is a supernatural reason for the seasons to be the way they are, not a scientific one.

Arya's treatment at Harrenhal and possibly her relationships with Gendey, Hot Pie, and her overseers will probably be parsed a frickton.

Same with the journey up.

I don't expect much more there than the stop at God's Eye and the holdfast and inn.

curious to see if Barristan Selmy is going to be in this season, he really wasn't mentioned much in KoK

Looking forward to see the women's story lines- Aryan, Daenerys, Cersei, and Margaery.

The person they got to play Margaery looks hot as hell.

The comet plays a big factor in this book. It's what Dany follows to that city, IIRC. (not that it does much after that) You can see it in the last episode of the first season.

Selmy isn't in the book much. Pops up more in either the 3rd or 4th. It's been a couple months since I read it.

One point I liked was how all these people had different interpretations for the comet, and they were all omens for themselves.

So, what did everyone think of the first episode in book terms? I personally thought Melisandre, Stannis, and Davos look pretty awesome and cast well so far. I didn't like how the Cressen versus Mel posionfest went down, which was really my only complaint with the episode. I liked in the book how She gave Cressen a chance to spill the wine and save himself, and how she drank the wine first. But otherwise she was perfect as the creepy and powerful Meilsandre.

I thought Headey was much better at being Cersei in this episode than she was at any point last season. The scene with Littlefinger was good stuff.

The one thing with this season that I'm curious to see is what they will do with Bran's storyline and with Theon, since they haven't cast the Reeds. That makes me think they will save most of that storyline for the beginning of next season, since there is no real way they can move Bran north without them. It's not like Bran and Hodor are just going to wander off on their own.

The fifth episode is called The Ghost of Harrenhal, so I'm guessing Arya's section will be condensed a great deal until she reaches Harrenhal (which is logical since her parts would be the easiest to cut stuff out of until then anyway, since it's mainly travelogue).
