I tarded out big time. It was one of those things that you know you know but you draw a huge blank.

you guys are the reason english clubs were banned from Europe for 5 years
True. In all seriousness though, we were just the straw that broke the camel's back. There had been problems for a good while with all English teams. Hence why the ban was country wide and not just Liverpool. It was long overdue. Something had to be done to rein in hooliganism in England.
Add to that fact that the place was falling apart, there was only a chain linked fence and marginally sparse police who were in no way equipped for riot situations between the two sides, and it was a recipe for disaster. What is easily forgotten is the Juve contingent on the other side of the stadium that charged the Liverpool section in a similar way. The only difference was that there were more police on that side who took the brunt of the attack instead of the Pool fans. One Juve fan was even seen firing a pistol into the police line.
I'm not making excuses as the Reds bear most of the blame for what happened. But lets not pretend that English football as a whole, and the Juventus contingent don't deserve part of it as well. It was a situation that could have happened to any team in England at that time and place.

After reading about the disaster I don't understand why UEFA decided to hold the game in a stadium that was falling apart.

There are a lot of things we don't understand about UEFA and FIFA. You just have to come to accept it.

I've been trying to find the time to watch more. One of the most interesting documentary series I've ever watched.
