I've actually been enjoying some of these tunes. Very relaxing.

Washington Phillips - "A Mother's Last Word To Her Daughter" (1929)
Bye and bye I'm going to see the King
Bye and bye I'm going to see the King
Bye and bye I'm going to see the King
Lord, I don't mind dying,
'cause I'm a child of God
Item in the Teague (TX) Chronicle, Nov. 8, 1907:

Marty Robbins is great but he's Classic Country

I've not visited this board much since it got gheyed up a bit. Thanks for keeping it gritty with this thread.

Hoagy Carmichael- Up a Lazy River performed by Dean Martin and the Mills brothers.
Couldn't find the clip with Hoagy sitting at the piano talking to Harold Russell from The Best Years of Our Lives while he plays Lazy River. Great scene using a great song.
Great thread!

I just learned this existed a few days ago:
Jimmie Rodgers in The Singing Brakeman (1930)
A short starring the Father of Country Music in his only film appearance. Your aunt's home movies from Six Flags were more imaginatively directed, but this gives us the priceless opportunity to see a legend perform.
For you guitar geeks -- he's playing a Martin 000-45

An amusing, rather risqué number:
Georgia Tom & Jane Lucas - "Where Did You Stay Last Night" (1930)
As mentioned earlier in the thread, Georgia Tom would later be known as Reverend Thomas Dorsey, author of the gospel classic "Peace In The Valley".
Apparently "Where Did You Stay Last Night" would later be covered by Nirvana on MTV's Unplugged.
