It is a weak watered down version of Battle Royale. I read the book a few weeks ago and I can't figure out the hype. It just wasn't that good.

I read the book and thought it was decent. I'm not sure why this movie is getting the Twilight hate considering it isn't really that similar. I mean, there's a love story involved, but most movies have that. I'm not saying it's going to be the best movie ever, but I think it'll be ok.
To the OP, it's not the Running Man in the aspect that in The Running Man Arnold was fighting against designated combatants who weren't actually trying to get free. Their only job was to kill Arnold. In The Hunger Games, these kids have to kill each other to survive. The last person standing wins. While it is similar, it isn't the same.
