I believe there's no way to avoid paying taxes here then having to register it in Texas other than buying the vehicle in Texas once you get your address. You have to if you ever plan to have it registered in Texas.

If you can hold off, buy in Texas. The sales tax is cheaper and you wont have to go through the process of new registration and sending your LA plates back. The Texas DPS website should answer your questions. You will have to get a Texas inspection sticker before you get it registered. Also, a change in insurance due to different requirements. I had to cancel my LA policy and start a new one in Texas with the same national company. Dont forget about a TX DL either. You will need your birth certificate etc. for the DL.
