Being the last year of his contract you may have to, I doubt he'd keep signing one year extensions.

Fine. He knows where the door is.

Not sure why people keep throwing this into their posts. There is no outcome on the court in the NIT that will result in a firing. Barring some sort of scandal, or him going Woody Hayes on Ralston Turner, he's the coach next year. That's not my opinion based on me liking or disliking the guy, that's the reality of the situation.

anything less than a win in the tourney next year should merit a firing

I don't think it should come down to how we do in the NCAA tournament if we get there. That's a crapshoot and anything can happen in one game. What will be more important, at least for next year, is how we do over the course of the season. If we play well and earn a 5 or 6 seed in the NCAA but then lose in the first round, I think that would merit giving him another year.

However, that said, I think he should be fired now for not doing any better than he did this year.

I thought this was year he needed to get in the NCAAs. It's bad IMO when Southern Miss has a better coach than LSU

This is an ignorant comment.

1) Trent has accomplished far more than Larry Eustachy in his career. Look at the bios.
2) Eustachy was fired from Iowa St for drinking with coeds on the road amongst other reasons. Would you really want somebody like that leading your program?

quote:

The Des Moines Register published photographs on Monday showing Eustachy kissing or being kissed by women and Eustachy holding a can of beer at a party in Columbia, Mo., on Jan. 22, more than four hours after his team lost to Missouri in a Big 12 Conference game.

3) He's been at USM since 2004 (8 seasons)... glad to see they finally made the tourney... You give a decent coach that much time and they can build a program. Shocking to hear I know.

Standards pretty low. I cant imagine what alleva will do if we win an NIT game.

sigh...

Yeah, it is kind of funny to see how the timetable just keeps getting pushed back every year. I guess if we give him 40 more years, he'll eventually make it to the NCAA tournament. Hell, in 20 or so we might break .500 in the SEC! Give that man a raise!

With the tourney being the crapshoot that it is, I don't see how you can tie in-tourney performance to his job security.

That said, he absolutely must make the tourney next year. We return almost everyone off a young NIT team that should only continue to get better. Hopefully we add a couple of quality guys this spring to make us even deeper (though I hate that we have to wait until spring to finish our recruiting).

I think an NCAA bid and a solid SEC record is the bare minimum required for him to keep his job.
