Gulf shores fishing

Going to gulf shores for a week and plan to sneak away a few times and try to get some fishing in. are there some good public fishing piers or are there better places to fish from the shore? Any advice or tips are appreciated!

I've only fished the Little Lagoon in GS, reds and flounder on market bait.
If you are fishing the Gulf, bring a piece of 1 1/4 pvc cut to about 4' for each rod. That way you can sit back until some hits.
