I came to you guys when I was in the market for a new spinning rod combo and yall didnt let me down.

Now i am back to see what advice yall give me on a casting Rod/Reel. My budget is about $200

Note* I have multiple gift cards to academy and Cabelas.

OK. despite the fact that there are 25 similar threads in the past week, I'll bite.

What type of fishing do you mostly do?

If trouts and reds, get a Shimano Curado and you can shop round for a $75 dollar rod to stay close to your budget. I think Coastal makes some decent rods for that budget.

For Bass fishing, someone else might have some ideas.

I`m not a big time fisher but I like Pflueger reels. They make a good one IMO. I know better reels are out there but you can get a good set up for 200.

Abu Garcia Revo S for $130, put it on a 7' or 6'6" MH rod depending in how long you like em. I think there's a 7' MH falcon coastal that can be had for $80. There's probably a few $70-$80 rods out there that would work well that I can't think of right now

I'd go with a Curado 200E7 and a St. Croix Avid (7' MH).

ETA: Assuming you got lots of gift cards.

I just picked up a new Shimano Chronarch reel. It's $199, but Shimano has a $30 mail-in rebate offer right now. Otherwise, the Citica isn't bad for the price (about $120). Lots of folks seem to have bad reviews for the new Curados (not bad reels, but not as good as the previous model). For rods, I just picked up a base model All-Star at Academy for $40.

The new Citica is listed for $130, which is the same price as a Revo S. The Revo S is a better reel IMO.

Also Abu has a deal with the Revo SX ($170) or a $30 mail in rebate. The SX is a fine arse reel, I like it more than my Curado.

Normally, I just mention Castaway and Allstar, but since you're going to Cabelas, I do not believe there is a better buy for the money than Cabela's Fish Eagle II. Fantastic rods in every way.

I've been interested in these for a while.
Glad to hear this.
I don't buy expensive rods.

the neighbor kid has one with a Citica on it. I think he said the rod was $20 because they were having a sale. Pretty good combo for what he paid for it.

Another good budget rod is the Berkely Amp. My brother has one and it's pretty damn sensitive for $30. Feels like much more expensive rod. Cabelas carries them.

Just bought this reel

and matched it with this pole

I was very supprised how good they both are for the price. I bass fish a lot and have many different combinations, but this has been the best bang for my buck.

I almost bought a pro max a few years ago, ended up getting the Orra SX instead. I just like metal instead of graphite. I haven't played with any of the new max reels though.

I just bought another Falcon HD light spinning rod. Now, my 2 perch-au-lait setups will match.

I bought the SX and while waiting for it to come in which is hopefully today. I bought this cheap one to take its place last weekend. So far I am impressed. Once the SX comes in it will be my third Abu Garcia and so far i like them better then my curados. It is a really good combo for under 200 dollars.

I have 5 Abu Baitcasters and have no complaints with any of them. The Orra isn't as smooth and doesn't cast as far as the rest, but I think I'm gonna do something to change that pretty soon. Or break it trying...

this by far is my favorite reel i own, but for the price tag there are better options out there. I wouldn't rate it much better then my curado 200E5
