How do you play Call of Duty Elite?

My son is a big Call of Duty player. I have no clue how to even work the Xbox 360. I signed him up for Elite, but just the free version. We're stuck on the screen that says "Career, Connect, Compete, Improve". How do you get past this to play the actual games? I understand that Elite isn't a game into itself, but just added features, but how does he go about playing the new levels you can download?

The free version doesn't give you the new levels and just let's you do advanced stat tracking basically.

Really? I thought it gave you a couple of new maps to download. So the free version is only a stat tracker?
How much is the premium? And is it worth it?

Yes

$50 per year and you get something every month with it. It might be new maps or new missions to download.

The 4 map packs (if you plan on buying him all four) are going to be $15 each so in a since you would be saving $10 over the course of a year. That's about it.
FYI 4 map packs x 5 maps = 20 maps total for your $50
