That actually sounds good to me. Like the Roman Empire struggling not ot fall. Make it dark but still hopeful.

I just don't think people would react to humans/The Federation being "weaker" in the presence of others. Unless the show were about some kind of upheaval and a return to power over the course of the series, but they didn't detail this in what I read.
