They are working on one now. Enterprise did kind of suck though, and after having the shows on for so many years straight the stories got stale. You can only watch so many Starfleet officers struggle with moral dilemmas.

Bryan Singer proposed one, but it was a fricking awful premise. They were going to have it set far in the future, with the Federation trapped in a time of stagnation. Basically in his vision the Federation would have spent two centuries not doing shite and losing power fast. No one would have wanted to watch that. Also he was fresh off Superman Returns, so his stock wasn't soaring so high.

There is a new one in the works that has promise. It takes place shortly after the Voyager era. In this one, the Klingons are slowly getting pissed about the deal they struck with the Federation and are about to go nuts again. The Ferengi stumbled across a new resource that made them insanely wealthy and finally dangerous.

Fun note: the Ferengi were initially supposed to be real villains in the series, but soon after their introduction it was realized they were too comical to be threatening. For this reason the Borg were introduced.

They're trying to get a younger, faster paced show this time around. More of the style of the new Star Trek movie. They're going to stick with original canon and not use the alternate universe JJ Abrams made.

It hasn't been officially pitched yet, but it has a decent shot.

Well, fact of the matter is all TV is purely speculative at this point. If they ever revisit the TNG prime timeline, they should make an animated movie or 13 episode miniseries of the Destiny trilogy. Those books are a goddamn great story.

That actually sounds good to me. Like the Roman Empire struggling not ot fall. Make it dark but still hopeful.

I think Rodenberry had a similar idea for a Star Trek sequel set in the Federation's far future. It morphed into Andromeda.
