Considering that 100 meter runners do not reach top speed until AFTER 40 yards--the comparisons are irrelevant!!!
The great sprinters are undoubtedly FASTER at their peak than football players at any time during the 40 yard time trial...
Compare the split times/converted to yards. NO ONE has ever run faster than Bolt between 60 to 80 meters!
And this topic should not be about 40 time--but about who is FASTEST!
Taking Bolt's top-end speed and working it into a self-start (contrast to a reaction-start in track) = a 40 time of 4.0.
Again, Bolt cannot reach this unprecedented speed in the first forty yards. This discussion completely hypothetical.
