Where do you want to fish it predominantly? If you're gonna hold up in the marsh you need a flats skiff type hull. If you ever plan on touching Lake Ponchartrain waters you'll need a heavy bay boat hull.
I would say that a bay boat w/ a heavy hull and a jackplate is very versatile for SE Louisiana.

Well, this will primarily live its life down in the middle Keys. So, shallow to medium water, mangroves/canals that type of stuff. Don't envision getting into the "deep sea" scene, although it would be nice to fish wrecks a bit offshore....
