The Rant's "Chicken Littleitis" has bled onto here so thoroughly...

I would like to make a couple of points.
1. The sky is not falling.
2. A couple of years ago we needed running backs, so we got a bunch of running backs.
3. Last year, we needed QBs so we got a bunch of quarterbacks.
4. This year, we need LBers in the worst possible way, so we're getting a bunch of LBers.
This class is fundamentally sound, in many ways, and will have some All American and All-SEC players come out of it, and yes, a handful who will play on Sundays - just like most LSU classes over the past 15 years.
LBers do not wow the recruiting services nearly as much as offensive skill position players or elite DBs and DEs.
We're getting arguably the nation's best long snapper, and he's the lowest rated player in the class, as well as one of the very best TE prospects. These things do not normally boost the recruiting rankings as much as landing an elite QB, RB, WR, CB, S or DE.
This kind of class, which is solid, if not spectacular, in its own right, is not a "problem" as long as it is sandwiched between elite classes.
I'm not trying to be a sunshine pumper - we lost two elite, in-state prospects to the angry little man from WV. We lost the big game and everyone wants to hang some higher significance on it. The Kiel debacle was certainly not our best hour. We have not, as yet, closed the deal on an elite player for 2012 (and we may not - so what?) to make us feel better about that.
However, we have a class that is roughly 1/3 LBers and we still rank fairly well, though not quite as well as the past half-dozen classes. We have about 8 to 10 guys in this class who are going to surprise many of the Chicken Littles.

All solid points. The only argument from the "chicken littles (which is sort of valid)," is that Alabama continues to dominate and has no need for these "fill" classes. They're our direct competition. We have to beat them to reach the goals that we aspire to.

Someone on here had a post about how positions recruited can determine how a class can be ranked, which I thought was interesting.

If LSU can get 10 solid contributers from this class, there is nothing wrong with it.
Half of every recruiting class never even plays anyway. U can sign 25 5 stars and I promise you, there will be 10 that never even see the field.
We do need to follow this class up with a top 5 class next year though.

This type of rational posting should be banned IMO.

Ha. I hear ya. People are just upset over our performance (not so much the loss, but the performance) on 1/9. Add to that the very public Collins commit to Bama and the Kiel thing...
The cuts run deep for many Tiger fans. Lot of invested emotion. Takes a while to heal.
But we'll all get over it...eventually.
Truth is, even though there may not be a lot of hype for this class, there are a couple of guys who might be able bring smiles to Tigers fans again. For example, a guy like the Dural kid from Breaux Bridge. He's a 4 star, I think, but seemingly hasn't generated a lot of hype. Haven't seen him live, but on film he looks very smooth, very athletic. I know he's not very big physically, but I think he could become a big time SEC performer. And you're right, the LBs could have an immediate positive impact.

I hate it when that happens. Great time of year for recruit watching/news. Terrible time of year to be a RB regular.

I really don't care about recruiting, with that said we are 6th in the SEC in recruiting so far. Is that good or not?
