They make a shrill cry that sounds kind of like a high pitched cricket or grasshopper. If you ever hear it and see the squirrel (rare in the daytime) you will think it's from something other than the squirrel, more than likely. I had a family 'invade' my house several years ago, they are cute but tough to get rid of. They absolutely love eggs though (they need the calcium).
