My son is 4 and I've taken him a couple times this year. One was a gadwall massacre standing on the banks of the slough behind the house. It was 20 minute fast paced hulling (me w/ a shotgun, him w/ a red rider) and then it was over. He thought it was awesome. The other hunt was in the blind at the camp and it was fairly slow. He got bored after about 2 hours, so I took him in. Once they start getting bored I think it's best to take em in. You don't want to burn them out. Good luck

I started when I was 6. I had a 20 gauge pump that would kick the crap out of me. They would let me stand on a 5 gallon bucket so I could see out of the blind. Almost Every time I would shoot it would nock me off the bucket. I would pump it as I was getting back up on top of the bucket and shoot again. Probably not the safest hunting in the world, but it worked and I loved every minute of it. First duck I ever killed was a banded mallard I still have the mount it is 28 years old. I have been hooked on duck hunting ever since.
