we can talk about not recruiting out of state, but if you look at the probable starting lineup for next year it is littered with oos talent

Shepperd - TX
Hurst - TN
Wiliford (if he starts at OG) - AL
Ware - OH
Mett - GA
Montgomery - SC
Minter - GA
Loston - TX

Could be more/less depending on how camp works out the depth chart, but if you look at key players not starting, you will have Ferguson(Md), Copecland(Ga), Hairston(Tx), both the 2nd and 3rd QB will be OOS plus any OOS freshmen we get this year. Based on what our roster looks like, I think we are on par with other big programs. The thing about the others is LSU gets the lion's share of LA talent. Bama splits with Auburn, Florida shares with Miami and FSU, Ohio State and Tennessee are forced to move OOS becasue the talent isn't as plentiful in those states as it is in the other SEC states.

My opinion (for what its worth) is that we are in fine shape locking down the state the best we can and targeting good OOS talent that is willing to commit and come to BR. Location is a massive recruiting tool and many 18 year old players don't want to travel too far away. LSU is lucky to be sitting in fertile football territory.

All very good points. I probably should have said, Out of Region recruiting. However, your list shows everyone being from the region.

At first with Barksdale (Detroit) and Ware (Cincy), I thought we had something going there in the Midwest, but that seems to have stopped. I'd also like us to try to at least put a foot in the door in the Mid-Atlantic region (VA,MD,PA,NJ) for some 5 stars. Also a Cali player every now and then, at least just get them in for a visit.

You are totally correct, we are fertile, but have lost 4 impact players - top players - in the past two years, all to Alabama schools. If we can't defend that, then we just need to go elsewhere for 5 stars.

Thanks for the list BTW
