Russell Shepard needs to become a satellite player

A lot of talk of Shep these days has me really thinking. Shep is a football jack of all trades. He was most deadly, which i guess most have forgotten since the North Carolina game that RS was lethal out of the backfield. His vision is the best on the team. As a receiver he excelled (very loose definition) at comeback routes but never was a deep threat. My point is that I believe Krags, Stud or whoever has pull in the offensive meeting room needs to make this kid a true "Joker"(Gruden) player. Hes never gonna be an elite receiver, running back or quarterback. But as a true satellite player (D. McCluster, Percy Harvin, D'Anthony Thomas, Derron Sproles). Now Shep doesnt have anywhere close to the speed of any of those guys but his football intelligence is much greater than any of those guys. Alabama used fricking Smelly as a "Joker" against LSU and he looked like an all SEC tight end. Shep could have given LSU a matchup nightmare at all times for the past three years. His role was diminished last year to the point where he is running routes that even better receivers dont have success at thus making him null and void. In football, players like that create problems just by their presence. He most def. would have taken pressure off our two "limited" signal callers since he's been here. Not trying to beat a dead horse. Just in the most recent exposure of our game-plan or lack there of i feel that Shep's football intelligence mixed with his physical ability would be a nice bullet in the chamber for any offensive coordinator. If someone like Sean Payton or any creative minded NFL coach really examines him as a total package Shep should have a productive NFL career.
