Well, if we're going to have a pissing contest over who is the best recruiter, why in the world would we not include recruting for special teams???????? Never forget: 5:51

Our punter had a 45yd avg in HS. And Cade Foster regularly kicked it through the endzone in HS. We recruited well and supposedly we have the best #1 FG guy in 2012 class. Our ST/kicking coach must suck. Saban needs to fix that in offseason.

Oh and it was 8:54 not 5:51.

Saban starting pulling in top recruits, but what he did is nothing compared to Miles

Not true at all.

Miles takes two star players and makes them Heisman Trophy candidates. Miles nails down top national recruits.

So one player is a candidate and all of a sudden you act like it's common.

I think CLM is doing a great job recruiting but FYI Dinardo started it all, Saban elevated the recruiting and CLM has sustained the talent level.

You just lost all cred for the second time. You obviously know nothing about our younger classmen.
Have you seen the QB's to come?

Lets see. Russel Sheppard a 5* QB, which is now a WR. Mettzenberger an untested UGA dropout. So, what else? Kiel is cool but it could be yrs before he sees the field. I'm still hoping we steal J. Winston from FSU. Phil Simms gave AJ a run for the money so he doesn't suck. Alex Morris is a 3* but kid has amazing size and #'s. Who is the last decent QB LSU developed? So, at best you guys are even with us. Top line we're LOT better.

Last year we had Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson. And 3 very good backs behind them. If Saban wanted to run multiple backs he would have then. He didn't.

Yep, and Mo Claiborne was a 3 star. Was he a 2 star up until LSU took him? Who needs the fictitious #1 recruiting class title when you are getting these sorts of players who actually hurt your Rivals ranking? I'll take a top 10 class for these types of recruits ANYDAY!

Lets end the debate. I say Les Miles has done a great job recruiting and developing talent. But he's not better than Saban. They run different schemes so they need different players. I'll just leave it at that.

I think they recruit the same type of athletes. Some people think finishing 1st in recruiting is all that matters. IMO recruiting needs is more important. I think they both do this well but I may have to give CLM the edge for recrutiing kickers.

Yes I would rather have 2 than 1. Same with RB's. Injuries happen.

And for "Born in BR" posting that CLM recruits more OL's. I went back and looked. In 2008-2011, LSU has taken 16 OL's and Bama has taken 17 OL's. Bama star rating slightly better (Bama 6 4*, 3 5*, LSU 8 4*, 1 5*). I knew "Born in BR" was FOS. That just shoots your entire cred. Saban recruits his needs as well or better. To knock on his recruiting is crazy.

I was talking about the shortage of offensive lineman LSU had in 2005 and 2006 due to the failure to recruit OL when Saban was at LSU. As far as my being full of shite as you say please read my post again and check your facts before casting aspersions on an objective statement. I respected Saban while he as at LSU but it was common knowledge that he did not recruit with emphasis on positions, but rather on star level.
Having said that I still maintain that Les Miles tends to recruit the best players for needed positions and Saban goes after the best players no matter the position. The latter strategy can leave some positions somewhat thin. How many offensive linemen played for Alabama during the November 5 game? Not many. That is why they appeared gassed late in the fourth quarter and overtime. I distinctly remember the entire starting offensive line for Alabama still playing late in the fourth quarter.

AJ sucks pretty hard so that does not say much for Phil Sims. Our current quarterbacks are good enough to whip your arse and also everyone else on our schedule. Our SOS, in case you haven't noticed, was the toughest in the country.

Right now Bama's best resume entry is that they managed to get an overtime loss to LSU. After January 9 Bama can say they were able to lose to LSU in the NC game.

I suppose you are referring to HB7 as a 2 star. He was a 4* on Rivals. If I recall Saban did have a #1 recruiting class at LSU. Miles hasn't done that yet so I don't think you can call Saban's efforts there nothing. And Bama has been #1 recruiting 3 of last 4 years. Just about every school except LSU has to compete with another major program in their own state. I wouldn't call Les a recruiting genius.

Actually 09 was a top class on some sites but it really doesn't matter. Teams that recruit top 10 on a consistent basis have lots of talent to develop. I give Saban full credit for the current formula at LSU but les is better at finding and developing diamonds in the rough; like mo Claiborne, Tyrann, bennie Logan, etc.

So, Les is a better coach because he's winning with lesser talent? Which is it? You really have to pick a side man!
