It's entertainment - bottom line, a shiteload of people watch them - that's how they make their money, by giving people what they want to watch.

if they really controlled it, they probably would have preferred someone else outside the southeast playing in the title game, more potential viewers that way = more advertising dollars.

When they saw the way the polls were going to go, they went into hype mode to try to get people excited for the game, to drive up viewer numbers. Again, this = advertising dollars.

it's a business.
