Looking to purchase a rifle and scope. Probably Browning X-Bolt with Nikon scope, but still looking. I have been told to stay away from places like Cabela's, Academy, etc. for guns because of service after the purchase or lack of service I should say if you have a problem with them.

What say the OB?

Prices are likely to be higher at a local store, but it depends how small they are. I'll say this if you are located anywhere near a store like Simmons in Bastrop take a look at their selection. I was buying a Beretta through a wholesaler and Simmons had a cheaper price because they can buy in such volume. I'm sure that there are other places around the state that fit this same criteria, maybe like a Puglias. I seem to remember seeing some good deals one time at G & H in Gueydan also. I've always gone to where the best deal is, and if you have any issues with service find a gun smith.

I buy local. Reason being to support small business and I can walk in and talk to the guy that sold it to me. Not a different person behind the counter every week. Most big chain stores tell you to send all your complaints to the manufacturer.

I recently returned a Streamlight to Cabela's because I found it for about $50 less in town. I think they're gun prices are more comparable but about the only local shop I'd by from is Hebert's or Bowie. I really don't care for Jim's although their selection is the best.
