Smart wldnt stick around that long. He is expected to leave this yr or next. If he has success elsewhere, I think Saban would endorse Kirby as his replacement.

Kirby has told a few people that he thinks the Bama job is his once Saban leaves. Maybe he really thinks that. Maybe he has reason to think that. Or maybe he uses it as a negotiation point with other teams, but I know he's said it more than once.

He recommended we hire Houston Nutt to replace him here

I also know he told them he didn't think Jimbo Fisher was ready.

I would think it would depend on where Smart goes. If he goes to a non AQ or 2nd tier BCS school like OM he would certainly leave for Bama, but if he's at a bigger school doing well, who knows? It makes a lot of sense, most of the guys Alabama hired after Bryant had Bama ties, that he'd be high on the list of replacements.

Bama can do better than Smart for sure.
