Bingo. People ALWAYS think ESPN hates them because they "don't get enough coverage".

There are 24 hours in a day. Let's just say ESPN & ESPN 2 show nothing but analysis shows all day on both. No games, no sob stories, no commercials, no 30 for 30...nothing but talking about teams. That gives them 48 programming hours.

There are 120 teams in D1 football.
There are 30 NBA teams.
There are 30 NFL
There are 346 D1 Men's CBB teams.
There are 30 teams in the NHL.

Those are the 5 big sports on right now. A total of 556 teams. Now let's say they only cover:

40 NCAAFB teams
20 NFL teams
15 NBA teams
30 NCAABB teams
10 NHL teams

That should cover your "relevant" teams, leaving them with 115 teams to cover.

2880 minutes to cover 115 teams. 25 minutes a team. That is without ANY commercials and NO "special programs" and NO games.

Bottom line: With as many teams as they cover, in as many different sports they cover, with the limited amount of time they have (commercials and time people actually watch), I think ESPN does a decent job. They can't sit there and talk about only 115 teams for 24 hours a day.
