Comparing 2006 and 2011

Obviously there are a a good bit of similarties between the 2006 and 2011 season in regards to all the rematch stuff. So I thought I would take a look back and compare strength of schedule and wins against top 30 teams according to the Sagarin ratings.
In 2006, Florida jumped Michigan in the final rankings to prevent a rematch.
At that time Florida's SOS was ranked 8 in the nation with a 6-1 record against top 30 teams.
While Michigan's SOS was 12th in the nation while going 3-1 against top 30 schools.
Fast forward to 2011 and assuming OSU wins this weekend, OSU's SOS is currently ranked 8th in the nation and will be 7-1 against top 30 schools (if the beat Oklahoma).
Alabama's SOS is currently ranked 23rd while going 2-1 against top 30 schools.
The similarities are ridiculously similar with the big difference being Michigan lost in their last game of the season
Now I'm not saying Bama doesn't deserve a rematch or OSU is a better team. Just thought this was interesting and hopefully open up some discussion.

Cha-ching. And there's your answer. Alabama is already in the game. No one is even looking at the other side of the coin.

2006 Florida also had close (1-7 points) games against Tennessee, Georgia, Vandy, South Carolina and Florida State, and they lost by 10 to Auburn.
All of 2006 Michigan's victories came by more than a TD except for a 7 point win at Penn State. They lost by three on the road to the consensus #1 team.

I believe the Big 12 has better teams top to bottom then the SEC this year too right?

I have a feeling this Friday some espn people will start hyping to put Okie State in if they win. Hell some people on Around the horn are already saying it

If OSU wins big over OU, things could get interesting, no doubt. At the very least there will be some sweating Gumps until the matchup is officially announced. Should be fun.

I like this thread and think voters really should think about 2006 when placing their final votes.
All that season, everyone knew that Ohio State and Michigan were the best two teams in football. The only difference that year is people did not want to see a rematch.
Was that game at Ohio State or Michigan?

Does this mean that OSU is going to skulldrag LSU and that Houston is going to skulldrag 'Bama?

What's funny is that game was 42-39 and everyone talked about how exciting it was afterwards. Everyone talked about how boring the LSU bama game was but wants to see that rematch. Oklahoma State just isn't a known commodity and havent competed for titles. That's why they aren't getting the benefit Florida did

I still think LSU was the best team in the nation in 2006. Those two losses (especially to Auburn) still bug me.

Which proved to be inferior to the SEC champion in virtually every way.

If the Big 10 had won 5 consecutive BCS titles (with Michigan winning one recently), Michigan would have gotten the rematch.

On the other hand, the only reason that 5 year run was able to happen was because in 2006 a team from a conference without an impressive BCS Championship history (only won 1 BCS title in the previous 7 years) was given a chance.

The point of the national championship is to figure out who the best team is IMO. Not to figure out the best 2 teams. That's why teams have dropped after losing the national championship. We know LSU is better than Bama because they have played at Bamas home field and won.
We haven't played any of the other 1 loss teams and okie state has a better resume than bama

thanks

A lot can happen to turn the tide the other way in one week. If Okie lite wins handedly over OU then things could get real interesting.
