Chris Paul to the Thunder for R. Westbrook and a first rounder.

Side note - As the Thunder, I'd trade K. Perkins and J. Harden for D. Howard.

I'm sure the thunder would blow their entire team sans Durant for Paul and Howard.

i havent really followed whats been done in the agreement. i know if we dont trade paul then he will walk in free agency so does this mean we need to trade him before season starts and begin the rebuilding process?

Are you a Thunder fan?

Thunder ship:
Westbrook, non-lottery pick, Perkins, and Harden

Thunder get:
CP3 and D-Wight.

That would be the coup to end all coups.

No you don't. He would be giving up a significant chunk of change and an extra year to leave in FA.

I'm really not as sold on that as some others. Who has room to make a big run at him? It's not exactly contendors, which would be his main reason for leaving.

I think he'll walk in free agency but I'm willing to play "chicken" with him to see if he'll flinch.

This passive-aggressive "I want a trade but only to these particular teams" bullshite due to him letting Maverick Carter and World Wide Wes leak shite to the press is not sitting well with me.

If he doesn't name a team he'll go to with actual trade material, such as the Clip Show, I'd say to sit on his arse out of spite and dare him to walk as a FA.

If this is being pushed by his agents it's happening for a reason. If they felt comfortable biding their time until next year they wouldn't need to force their way out.

the knicks

i know that they can't offer as much as us, but he may leave lots on the table, like lebron/wade/bosh to go to that team

None of them left near what he would have to on the table, from my understanding. I just don't see him getting that many more marketing deals to justify taking a $70M hit to sign with them. That is a LOT of money. He is already an international superstar. Going to the Knicks isn't going to make him a superdupermegastar. In fact, his marketability might take a hit in the short-term if he made the move.

what is the per-year loss, though?

he's giving up years, which he will likely make up

I'm actually not totally against this. His agents are trying to force our hand pre-flop. Unfortunately, the culture of the NBA has been to capitulate to these demands. I really wish the owners would man up and start making the players make the hard decision. Then the players will be taking significant PR, ie marketing, hits as well to leave.

And look at what happened to Lebron's public perception, which is extremely important to marketing potential. If he really wants a trade or to get out, make him do it by his own volition. Make him take a pay cut. Make him take the PR hit.

I just think the entire NBA ownership community sans the Knicks and Lakers could benefit by forcing the hands of prima donnas. Don't help them by trading them for bad contracts to allow them to make the same money. If they do elect to sign for pennies on the dollar, it will give more money to the rank-and-file.

Now, I don't think this is going to happen, but there is a reason why a lot of casual fans think NBA players are spoiled beyond reason (looking at you, Latrell). It's because they have been allowed to have their cake and eat it, too.
