People, we are playing for the title of Champions of the best conference in the nation on Saturday. It really makes me sad when I remember 2001 and 2003, when we were thrilled beyond belief to be doing just that. Screw the BCS, and the MYTHICAL NC. We are about to play in a game that is based on concrete W/L records, not voting and computers.

FWIW, this sentiment is similar to that of Bo Schembechler, who thought people were stupid for thinking that winning a MNC was more important than winning the Big Ten. Of course, Bo never won a national championship.

If I had to take one over the other, I would take the NC.

Step 1, win your conference

Finish 2nd in your division, you finish out of conference title and the National Championship picture..... Unless you are Alabama

Good post. The SEC Championship is much more credible than the BCS/ESPN hoax. To be SEC Champions, LSU will have beaten Bama straight up on their field and Georgia in the Georgia Dome. Bama has accomplished nothing. The BCS/ESPN giving Bama a free pass is a joke.

I like your spirit but no a conference championship is not better than a national championship, especially when you can play for a bcs title w/o winning your conference (see Nebraska 2001 and Oklahoma 2003 and possibly Bama this year). It def is a great thing and something to be proud of, but if i had to pick on over the other, i'm picking a national title every single time.

it wouldn't be ideal but honestly i wouldn't care all that much. we'd still be the best team in college football. everyone else lost games, what difference would it make if ours was to georgia if we still won the national title?

An SEC Championship is earned and won on the field.

Bama has earned or accomplished nothing. LSU beat them in their house when it mattered. Bama lost its right to play in the true championship game. Their berth in the bcs/espn bowl is a joke.

not always. if we had lost to arkansas, it would have led to a tie breaker and come down to the bcs rankings of 3 teams, in part, to settle the tie breaker, which oddly enough is also what determines who plays in the national title game. the bcs title is also settled on the field. if you win the game, you win the crystal ball.

meh. you are saying it isn't always settled on the field, but if LSU beats Ark (like they did) then it is absolute.

SEC teams control their destiny on day 1 to win the SEC. That is not true with the BCS. (hey to Auburn 2004)

ok here's a question, would you rather have an SEC title and no national title or a national title and no SEC title. If you really say you would take an SEC title over a national title, you're either lying or crazy

It's not MYTHICAL... the teams that gets the crystal is the National Champion.

myth·i·cal/'miTHik?l/
Adjective:
Occurring in or characteristic of myths or folk tales.
Idealized, esp. with reference to the past.
Synonyms:
legendary - fabulous - mythological - fabled

LSU beat Arkansas. LSU beat Bama. LSU is where they are because they took care of business when it mattered. As SEC Champions, LSU will have beaten Georgia as well.

Bama lost when it mattered. Bama does not deserve to be competing for a championship against LSU. Bama is where they are because of voters, not what they did on the field.

guess you missed the word "if" in all of that. the point was an SEC championship doesn't always mean you played yourself into the game. There are situations, one that could have happened, where it would come down to an arbitrary poll. Regardless, anyone in here saying that an SEC title is better than an BCS title are lying to themselves or think we won't beat Bama again and are looking for a way to say our title is more impressive than theirs.

First off, calling it a Mythical National Championship is flat out stupid.

Second off, I actually agree that I always really want the SEC Championship. I can't wait for Saturday.
