Larry Scott actually told OU that they would accept OU and OSU as a pair. They worked out the details and then found out that they didn't have the votes because the Pac 12 presidents didn't think that OSU was academically worthy of their conference. That left OU president David Boren with serious egg on his face.

The Big Ten, ACC, and Pac 12 all turned down Texas because of the LHN. The Pac 12 is planning its own network and was trying to convince Texas into turning the LHN into an affiliate of that network. Deloss Dodds wouldn't budge, so they were told no.
