Tulane’s search for its next football coach is headed to the Midwest. According to a source familiar with the process, Green Wave officials have made inquiries about Toledo Coach Tim Beckman, Bowling Green Coach Dave Clawson and Ball State Coach Pete Lembo, all of the Mid-American Athletic Conference

I think Beckman could do well, dont know much about Lembo and Clawson has a terrible record so far at BG so I'd like to stay away from him.

Geez. Can anybody seriously say that Cowen and Dickson are trying to get Tulane to the next level if they're looking at candidates like Clawson and Lembo? I know they're not likely to hire either but they shouldn't even be making inquiries for them.

Guess that means they struck out on Leach and Rich Rod

Wouldnt surprise me if that's the case, but the pesrson who wrote that article has never even mentioned those two as candidates. However, another guy who covers Tulane said they have already met with RR once and he is the top candidate so far. He also said they plan to meet with Leach in the next two weeks.

Those are some shitty names.

They should drive and hour and a half up I59 and talk to Jeff Bower

Jeff Bower has impressed me, but I don't see him moving to Tulane from USM. They have a good thing going there and it's a lateral move.

USM fired him 4 years ago. He's been out of work since and would be a great hire if these are the guys TU is looking at now. He's a proven winner and recruiter of the area, his only problem would be that he's almost 60.

They should offer Ed O one mil and let him dominate the non-LSU S. Louisiana recruiting trails.

I got the names mixed up.

But I did quick search just to validate some things, and he had a steak of 14 straight winning seasons. That's impressive. If Tulane had an 14 straight winning seasons, we'd quintuple our stadium attendance at an on-campus stadium. No doubt in my mind.

They are looking at about 10 people in total (around that #).

Leach and RR are still very much in play here. Tulane can't assume they will land one of those two guys and just not look at anyone else.

When they hired the men's basketball coach there were 2-3 people if not more that were offered and several others being looked at before they signed the coach they have. There were several names floating around on that one to. The newspaper has to fill stories, that is what they do. They are rattling off names, that is their job.

The Toledo guy is interesting.

Makes me wonder if they have really spoke to Rich Rod or Leach. One of you guys may know for sure and can correct me but these names aren't nowhere's near RR or Leach.

It is called leverage .. when you start negotiating with potential coaches you do not want them to think that they are the only viable option on the table ....

Most MAC teams out-draw Tulane. I think Eastern Michigan is the only MAC team to truly have attendance problems.

Unless Tulane joins the Big 12 or the winner of the C-USA and MWC agreement gets a BCS bowl, I think a MAC program is a better job than Tulane.

I watched the two MAC games on ESPN this week and I think they drew better than Tulane and they have on-campus stadiums and the fans seem to support the team. Plus you have local alumni.

Would be terrible hires. Tulane needs either a NOLA guy, a northeast guy, or a spread offense guru.

MAC teams don't have the potential Tulane has... Tulane has the Superdome, and CUSA is a better conference, AQ or not

MAC teams also don't have access to Southern talent

well everyone uses the superdome against tulane on here, so i don't know if that's a positive

but tulane will be recruiting against other southern schools for southern talent, as well

His daughter is buried in Hattiesburg, his wife is from there. They've said they'd never leave Hattiesburg.

Beckman would be a candidate for any B-10 or equivalent job, not Tulane.
