When A&M went to Dan Beebe with complaints that the Longhorn Network wanted to show high school games, which wasn't part of what everyone had agreed to, he told us that we were easily replaceable.

Is this true?
If it is, why didn't A&M jam this up the media's arse when they crucified you guys for leaving?

The Conference has said both TAMU and Mizzou were replaceable. Then proceeded to beg and plead for us to stay.

We did. Our PR guys did a very good job this time, after being caught flat-footed last year. Believe me, A&M has won the PR battle this time around.

Regarding the "t.u." references, the real reason for this has to do with, surprise, the arrrongance of the Horns (sips, as we call them). Up until sometime after WWII, all state higher educations other than the University of Texas were colleges, or institutes (in the case of Texas Tech), so, when sips referred to their school, they referred to it as "The University" rather than "the Univeristy of Texas" (and heaven help you if you overlook the capital "T" in "The University") as a reminder that their institution was a "univeristy" and yours was a mere college. An example of this is the body that governs Texas high school competition, which is named the University Interlscholastic League, with "University" meaning UT-Austin (prior to integration, black school competition was run by the Prarie View Interscholastic League at Prarie View A&M). A&M's use of the lower case "t.u." was meant as a reminder that they weren't the only institute of higher education in the state, nor even the oldest.

From a practical standpoint, UT-A doesn't work either--they have a branch in Arlington that uses the UTA moniker. So, I'd suggest you guys just go with the flow and let UT be Tennessee and t.u. be those queers in Austin.
