Were they convicted of anything in a court of law?
It isn't against the law to fail a drug test. In fact, in many cases it isn't illegal to be high. However, it is illegal to sell, purchase, or have drugs, or paraphernalia, in your possession. Regardless, they were using an illegal substance, and that is an NCAA violation. Accepting money from a booster is not against the law, but it is an NCAA violation.

I personally could care less if someone wants to smoke pot - that's their decision. But currently it's illegal, and if you choose to do so and get caught you have to face the consequences.

What bothers me the most is the fact that this team had the chance to do something really special. And even though all is not lost - TM was one of if not the best defensive player in the nation. And it's hard to think that losing him will not adversely affect this team.
