Charlie Mac was fired for winning 79% of his games. He had one BIG problem.... He couldn't beat the Bear from Alabama.

this is the key. CLM wins the right games. He understood that LSU MUST compete for the SEC and National Championship EVERY year if he wants to be successful. He has done that more regularly than any coach has at LSU. He is also lights out thus far in recruiting. As my sig says, "IT'S GREAT TO BE A TIGER FAN!"

Cholly Mac won 67% of the games at LSU... still a good percentage, but it wasn't 79%.

Nobody could beat the Bear in the 1970's. mac got in trouble win LSU was picked to win the SEC title in 1974 and went 5-5-1, then 6-4-1, 8-4,8-4 and 7-5. Also, LSU was picked to win the NCAA championship in '72 (Bert's senior year)and went 9-2-1 and lost to Tennennesse in the Astro-Bluebonnet bowl. Lost to Tulane in 1973 and after winning their first 9-games lost their final three.
