Color vs. Color Soccer Matches

They had a thread on the Rant about whether or not LSU would wear white if WVU wore their yelllow uniforms. It got me thinking about soccer with matches mostly being between two colors and very few color vs. white. So, are color blind people pretty much screwed? In the hundreds of thousands of soccer matches, has this problem never come up? How could you possibly tell the difference in a Liverpool Chelsea match if you were colorblind?

One problem is that you actually have five colors to deal with in soccer (keepers + ref). I don't think a football ref changes colors for a team with black jerseys like the Steelers or Ravens, but I've never thought to look. That requires a lot of flexibility.

I absolutely hate it, there are a lot of soccer matches I can't watch without it being HD because of this reason.

I acually know someone who is color blind and plays at a high level. He just tells me he has to deal with it, there is nothing he can do.

The only reason American sports started do the whole color/white thing is b/c it was easier to tell a difference between the teams when TVs were black and white. It's just something that stuck, even with when color TV rolled around.
