I saw that as well. I was looking for some fallout, but maybe they are acting swiftly to clear it up, as Goldberg mentioned in the piece.

It really is a sham that the bowls qualify for tax exempt status and then do very little direct "giving back" to the community. But I would imagine unless it is so exorbitant (Fiesta Bowl) that mamy will turn a blind eye to it because the big bowl games are such a HUGE draw and money maker.

Sadly, after watching the show, it showed me just how hard it will be to ever have a true playoff in college because of the money and clout all of the major bowls carry. They can pay the big bucks to keep politicians and college presidents on their side. I am convinced now that any type of playoff will have to be done within the bowl system.

The politicians have no say in the matter either way. There is not some legal or regulatory hurdle toward having a playoff. These contributions are likely to help these slimy bowl officals get some benefit for themselves which has notthing to do with the merits of having a playoff vs bowls.
